Pat’s Story (Part 2)

This is one of the stories collected by Time’s Up Ateneo for its online campaign, Stories of Resistance, Stories of Hope: A Series of Online Testimonials about the October 15, 2019 Protest and the Anti-Sexual Violence Movement in Ateneo. Through this campaign, Time’s Up Ateneo hopes to generate conversation about how the school can continue toward a gender-responsive, safe, and progressive future, while understanding and addressing its flawed past.

Pat’s Story (Part 2)

In 2016, Patricia Escalante filed a case of sexual harassment against Dr. Jesus Deogracias Principe, a faculty member of the Department of Philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University.

In October 2019, in the wake of on-campus protests against sexual violence, then University President Fr. Jett Villarin said that “no formal complaint for sexual harassment has been filed” against Dr. Principe.

A year later, Pat tells her story in an interview with Time’s Up Ateneo, sharing her thoughts on these past events — and the way forward.

This is Part 2 of the interview, which took place last 24 October, 2020. This is the first time that Pat is speaking to the public after being interviewed by The GUIDON “Alumni come forward about sexual harassment cases against philosophy professor.”

Part 2 of the interview premiered at No Justice Without Healing, No Healing Without Justice: An Online Commemoration, held last 31 October.
