Pat’s Story (Part 1)

In 2016, Patricia Escalante filed a case of sexual harassment against Dr. Jesus Deogracias Principe, a faculty member of the Department of Philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University.

In October 2019, in the wake of on-campus protests against sexual violence, then University President Fr. Jett Villarin said that “no formal complaint for sexual harassment has been filed” against Dr. Principe.

A year later, Pat tells her story in an interview with Time’s Up Ateneo, sharing her thoughts on these past events — and the way forward.

This is Part 1 of the interview, which took place last 24 October, 2020. This is the first time that Pat is speaking to the public after being interviewed by The GUIDON “Alumni come forward about sexual harassment cases against philosophy professor.”

Part 2 of the interview will premiere during No Justice Without Healing, No Healing Without Justice: An Online Commemoration, to be streamed live on Time’s Up Ateneo’s Facebook page ( at 8:00 PM on 31 October 2020.

We welcome submissions of stories in any form from survivors and advocates. If you would like to share your story in this campaign, kindly email or message our Facebook page.
